10 At-Home Date Night Ideas for Long-Term Couples

Long Term Couples forget why they became partners in the first place. All the mundane responsibilities become overwhelming, and we stop focusing on each other and the relationship and rather start to focus on all the things that are going wrong in the relationship.

By doing these Date Nights, we bring back the romance and the spark back into the relationship, which helps us to resolve all the conflicts and resentments that have been building up for years. So, if there are certain issues that you cant seem to be able to shake, my recommendation is, start with such date nights. I assure you, if you do all of these date nights, within a month, you will start to see the difference in your relationship!!!

  1. Cook a Fancy Meal Together

When you start to cook, you will quickly realize that there is a lot of communication and planning involved in it. Often, we overlook these aspects, assuming we’re communicating effectively. By cooking together, we encourage the team bonding, between the partners in order to create something delicious together, that both can enjoy. It also provides a refreshing break from routine, allowing each partner to better understand and appreciate both the process and one another.

2. Indoor Picnic

Lay out a blanket, prepare finger foods, and enjoy your meal with soft lighting. Perhaps spend an afternoon or evening, in each other’s company, just chatting together or spending quality time together, away from the electronics and other distractions.

3. Game Night

Challenge each other with board games, card games, video games, Pictionary, Charades or Other Conversation Games. Add a playful bet to make it more exciting! Let your imagination run wild, there are so many possibilities with this to spice things up a little!!! Even without any naughty angle, having a regular game night helps us build the bond stronger and helps us understand our partner better.

4. Movie Night

All of us have a genre that we enjoy the most. Sometimes it matches with our partner, sometimes it doesn’t. If you and your partner don’t like the same kind of movies, then keep two nights aside for this. On first night, both of you watch your partner’s choice and in the second one watch your choice. However, remember to communicate effectively about it. In case you can’t decide on a movie, select a Harry Potter movie (my go to movie ;))

Also, “Netflix and Chill” is the go-to activity for the barely adult kids who just started dating! There is a reason why it is so popular. Give it a try!

5. Spa Night

Scented Candles, Relaxing music, aromatic oil and long massages! Can it get any better? Do I really need to give you more details on how to make it more romantic? Live in the moment!!!

6. Create a Memory Scrapbook

Reminisce about your life together. Get those old pictures out and walk down the memory lane together. Maybe one of you have saved the first rose or the first movie ticket you watched together. Remember the good times you have had together. It will help you plan many more of such date nights together that you would both enjoy! You can recreate your first date as well!

7. Themed Dinner & Dance Night

You can never go wrong with a little bit of dance together. The warm embrace and the feeling of hot breath on each other. It’s all about the Physical touch. In long term relationships, sometimes we forget how important it is to just touch our partner.

8. Karaoke or Talent Show

Sing your favorite songs together or showcase your hidden talents for a night full of laughter and fun. Songs speaks to our soul! It transcends beyond language and speaks directly to our heart! Dont underestimate the power of music! You can create a Playlist for each other!

9. Share your Hobbies together

We all love to do something and over again. Depending on your hobbies, you can plan it in advance. If you both have different hobbies, its even better. Explore each other’s hobbies and experience it with them! You can read a book together, or go for Archery practice (don’t laugh, its one on my list). If you both enjoy travelling, maybe plan your next trip or your ideal trip. You can do some DIY projects together. The important thing is to keep a night aside and decide on a hobby that you both would like to experience together and just live in that moment. In case you are unable to decide, take turns!

10. Work-out or Yoga

Last but not the least, plan a date where you work out together, or do Yoga together. It’s an amazing way to get things rolling. It not only has health benefits, it also helps with releasing hormones which helps us to be happier in general and build better bond with our partner!
