YOU MAY HAVE SEEN ME ON

I started the IMA programme having developed and increasing pot belly during and post covid whilst facing a decreasing my confidence as a result. Thankfully within a matter of weeks, I noticed several positive changes with my breathing improving significantly. My flexibility has also improved, as well as having a more positive outlook on the future. This was perfectly demonstrated by completing my first ever half Marathon, collecting £700 along the way for my favourite charity, a mere 14 weeks after commencing the IMA Method. If anyone ever told me this was possible, I would never have believed them.

- Rob from Hertfordshire

Since commencing the programme with Dave, I noticed improvements to my breathing and stamina after about three weeks and started to feel more agile and flexible, increasing the confidence in myself and my capabilities. Prior to joining the programme, I used to lose my weekly Badminton sessions to my 15 years younger nephew. I used to beat him in my 30’s but this changed in my early 40’s. Hah, Since the 8th week of the Method I have won every single game, using my newly found strength, agility and confidence. Bring it on...

- Stu from London

"I cant believe how amazing this exercise routine has been for me and my carer. I can do some of them on my own as can Dad. After that there's loads we can join in together. Loving it...The best bonus so far, a much better, deeper sleep, waking up raring to go, which I haven"t felt like in ages"

- Robbie from Brighton

I was desperate to find a health and fitness programme that met my needs, mainly to fit with my crazy long haulage hours. This programme fitted seamlessly with my on the road hybrid working arrangements. The instructions are super easy to follow. I feel so much better and can now jump out of the lorry seat rather than twisting and turning due to aches and pains, accompanied with a range of uncomfortable noises. My sleepings also improved which has always been a challenge for me. I would highly recommend this programme to other middle-aged men.

Midlife Strength: Why Combined Martial Arts Work for Every Man

Midlife Strength: Why Combined Martial Arts Work for Every Man

February 04, 20266 min read

Are you a middle-aged man wondering how to stay fit, strong, and confident no matter your experience or challenges? Martial arts have changed over the years, and combining different styles can give men in mid-life the best of all worlds, improving strength, balance, focus, and confidence while fitting any lifestyle or fitness level.

In this blog, we will explore how middle-aged men can reclaim fitness, focus, and confidence, how martial arts are accessible for every age and experience, and how combining styles unlocks their full benefits.

Reclaiming Fitness, Focus, and Confidence in Mid-Life

Middle age can bring changes in energy, strength, and focus that make staying fit feel harder than before. Many men start noticing that their body doesn’t move as easily and their stamina isn’t what it used to be. This phase of life can also bring stress from work, family, and other responsibilities, making it harder to feel confident and clear-minded.

It’s normal to feel a little out of balance in mid-life. Men often realize that their daily routine doesn’t give them enough challenge for the body or the mind. Feeling slower or less strong than before can affect not just physical health but also self-esteem and mental focus.

During this time, many men look for ways to regain their energy and confidence. They want to feel capable, alert, and in control of their body again. Fitness, mental clarity, and confidence become top priorities as they navigate the demands of mid-life and want to maintain a sense of strength and purpose.

Martial Arts for Every Age and Experience Level

Martial arts are no longer just for young or highly trained people. Today, they are designed to welcome men of all ages and experience levels, including those in mid-life who may be new to exercise.

Programs have changed to focus on safety, gradual learning, and movements that fit different body types and fitness levels. This means anyone can take part, whether they are beginners or have some previous experience.

Because of these changes, men in mid-life can explore martial arts without feeling left out or overwhelmed. The practice can be adapted to match their pace, abilities, and personal goals, making it accessible for everyone.

Unlocking the Full Benefits of Martial Arts for Middle-Aged Men

Middle-aged men can gain much more than just fitness from martial arts. Combining different styles can improve strength, balance, focus, and confidence in a way that fits their lifestyle and challenges.

1. Rediscover Your “Movement DNA”:

You can start by paying attention to how your body naturally moves. Notice what feels comfortable when you stretch, bend, or twist and which movements feel strong and easy. This is your “movement DNA” and understanding it helps you work with your body instead of against it.

Once you know your natural movements, you can add martial arts techniques on top. This makes learning new skills feel more natural and less forced. You will find it easier to practice, stay consistent, and enjoy the process as your body moves in ways that feel right for you.

2. Cross-Pollinate Styles for Brain Fitness:

You can keep your mind sharp by mixing different martial arts styles during practice. Try combining striking, grappling, and flowing movements instead of sticking to just one style.

This variety challenges your brain to learn new patterns and make quick decisions, keeping it active and engaged. At the same time, your body benefits from a full range of movements, making training more interesting and effective for you.

3. Micro-Challenges for Every Day:

You can make training easier and more fun by setting small challenges for yourself each day. Focus on something simple like learning one combo or improving your reaction time.

These tiny goals help you build consistency and make practice a regular part of your routine. Over time, completing these small challenges keeps you motivated and shows you steady progress in both your skills and confidence.

4. Reverse Engineering Your Weak Points:

You can improve your overall skills by paying attention to the areas where you feel weakest, like balance, flexibility, or strength. Notice which movements are harder for you and where your body struggles.

Once you identify these weak points, you can practice techniques that target them. Using a mix of different martial arts moves helps you strengthen those areas, making your body more capable, balanced, and ready for any challenge.

5. Integrate Mind-Body Storytelling:

You can make your training more interesting by imagining your martial arts moves in real-life situations. Picture yourself using the techniques in practical scenarios, like avoiding a fall or defending yourself.

This kind of visualization keeps your mind active while you practice and helps you understand the purpose behind each movement. It makes training more engaging and helps your body and mind work together naturally.

6. Rhythm and Flow Experimentation:

You can improve your coordination and energy by experimenting with rhythm and flow in your movements. Try mixing fast and slow techniques instead of doing everything at the same speed.

Playing with timing challenges your body to adapt and respond, making your practice more dynamic and enjoyable. It helps you move more smoothly and stay mentally alert while training.

7. Connect with Your Inner Warrior:

You can strengthen your mind and emotions by connecting with your inner warrior during training. Focus on the determination, courage, and calm that martial arts help develop.

This connection helps you feel more resilient, confident, and ready to face challenges both in your practice and in everyday life. It turns martial arts into more than just exercise, making it a tool for mental and emotional strength.

Conclusion

Middle age does not have to mean slowing down or losing confidence. Martial arts, especially when different styles are combined, offer a way for you to stay strong, flexible, and mentally sharp. They can challenge your body in new ways, improve your balance and coordination, and help you feel more confident and focused in everyday life.

By exploring different techniques, paying attention to how your body moves, and training both your mind and body, you can experience the full benefits of martial arts. No matter your experience or physical challenges, this approach can make fitness and personal growth enjoyable, engaging, and suited to your lifestyle.
